Why Mary Beth Shank for Judge?

Leadership, Honesty, Effectiveness

I am honored to be a candidate for the 39th Judicial District of Pennsylvania.  The district encompasses Franklin and Fulton counties.  I have strong local roots to my community and have been proud to build my law practice in the place I call home.  I was raised and educated (K-12) in Chambersburg and am a graduate of Grove City College and the Dickinson School of Law of Penn State University.  I have served families, individuals, pro bono clients, businesses and municipal organizations in my law practice.  I take pride in the way I serve my clients by offering common sense advice and helping folks achieve their goals.

Having been elected and served as President of the Franklin County Bar Association, my 150+ peers have shown their confidence in my leadership.  As a former elected borough councilwoman, my neighbors trusted me to represent their concerns.  As an active member and leader on community boards, non-profits and charities, I work with other invested members of our community, because we care. I am proud of the work I’ve done in my profession and community and desire to serve both by becoming your next common pleas judge.

Leadership and Service

Legal Background

I have served as Franklin County’s Solicitor since 2010 and previously as the Asst. County Solicitor from 2006 – 2010.   I am the County’s chief legal advisor and oversee or directly handle a broad range of matters related to operations including the Agency on Aging, Tax Assessment and Tax Claim Bureau, Jail, Election Board, Emergency Services, Planning, Grant, Human Resources and Purchasing departments.  While serving in this busy and diverse role, I have maintained a private practice, first as a partner with the law firm of Sharpe and Sharpe, LLP and since 2016 as a principal with the law firm of Salzmann Hughes, P.C.  In my private practice I have served families and clients in family law matters (custody, adoption, support, marital agreements), Children and Youth and Protection from Abuse matters, landlord and tenant issues and litigation, real estate matters, estate planning and administration representation and litigation and municipal matters, including zoning and land development, special counsel for tax exemption cases and general municipal matters.

Elected Officer and Board Member

Having been elected and served as President of the Franklin County Bar Association, my 150+ peers have shown their confidence in my leadership.  As a former elected borough councilwoman, my neighbors trusted me to represent their concerns.  As an active member and leader on community boards, non-profits and charities, I work with other invested members of our community, because we care.
